2. God has not put His people aside. He chose them from the beginning. Do you know what the Holy Writings say about Elijah? Do you know what Elijah said to God against the Jews?

3. He said, "Lord, they have killed Your early preachers. They have destroyed the places where You are worshiped. I am the only one left. They are trying to kill me."

4. But what did God say to him? God said, "I still have 7,000 men. None of them have worshiped the false god Baal."

5. It is the same now. A few of the Jews are being chosen because of God's loving-favor.

6. If they are saved from the punishment of sin because of God's loving-favor, it is nothing men have done to earn it. If men had earned it, then His loving-favor would not be a free gift.

7. This is the way it was. Many Jews did not get what they were looking for. Only those God chose received it. The hearts of the others were made hard. They could not understand it.

8. The Holy Writings say this about them, "God gave them hearts and minds that want to sleep. He gave them eyes that could not see. To this very day He gave them ears that could not hear." (Isaiah 29:10)

11. I ask then, "Did the Jews fall so they would be lost forever?" No, not at all! It means the people who are not Jews are able to be saved from the punishment of sin because the Jews sinned by not putting their trust in Christ. This made the Jews jealous of those who are not Jews.

12. The world received good things from God because of the sin of the Jews. Because the Jews did not receive God's free gift, the people who are not Jews received good things from Him. Think how much more the world will receive when the Jews finish God's plan by putting their trust in Christ!

12. Now G1161 if G1487 the G3588 fall G3900 of them G848 be the riches G4149 of the world G2889 , and G2532 the G3588 diminishing G2275 of them G848 the riches G4149 of the Gentiles G1484 ; how much G4214 more G3123 their G848 fullness G4138 ?

13. I am speaking to you people who are not Jews. As long as I am a missionary to you, I want you to know how important my job is.
|
13. For G1063 I speak G3004 to you G5213 Gentiles G1484 , inasmuch as G1909 G3745 G3303 I G1473 am G1510 the apostle G652 of the Gentiles G1484 , I magnify G1392 mine G3450 office G1248 :

14. I do this so it will make my own people, the Jews, jealous. Then it may be that some will be saved from the punishment of sin.

15. Because the Jews have been put aside, many other people in the world have been saved from the punishment of sin. Think what it will be like when they are also gathered in. It will be like the dead coming back to life!

15. For G1063 if G1487 the G3588 casting away G580 of them G846 be the reconciling G2643 of the world G2889 , what G5101 shall the G3588 receiving G4356 of them be, but G1508 life G2222 from G1537 the dead G3498 ?

16. If the first loaf is holy, all the bread is holy. If the root is holy, all the branches are holy.
|
16. For G1161 if G1487 the G3588 firstfruit G536 be holy G40 , the G3588 lump G5445 is also G2532 holy : and G2532 if G1487 the G3588 root G4491 be holy G40 , so G2532 are the G3588 branches G2798 .

17. But some of the branches (who are the Jews) were broken off. You who are not Jews were put in the place where the branches had been broken off. Now you are sharing the rich root of the olive tree.

17. And G1161 if G1487 some G5100 of the G3588 branches G2798 be broken off G1575 , and G1161 thou G4771 , being G5607 a wild olive tree G65 , wert grafted in G1461 among G1722 them G846 , and G2532 with them G1096 partakest G4791 of the G3588 root G4491 and G2532 fatness G4096 of the G3588 olive tree G1636 ;

18. Do not be proud. Do not think you are better than the branches that were broken off. If you are proud, remember that you do not hold the root. It is the root that holds you.

18. Boast not against G2620 G3361 the G3588 branches G2798 . But G1161 if G1487 thou boast G2620 , thou G4771 bearest G941 not G3756 the G3588 root G4491 , but G235 the G3588 root G4491 thee G4571 .

19. You may say, "Branches were broken off to make room for me."
|
19. Thou wilt say G2046 then G3767 , The G3588 branches G2798 were broken off G1575 , that G2443 I G1473 might be grafted in G1461 .

20. It is true. They were broken off because they did not put their trust in Christ. And you are there only because of your faith. Do not be proud. Instead, be afraid.
|
20. Well G2573 ; because of unbelief G570 they were broken off G1575 , and G1161 thou G4771 standest G2476 by faith G4102 . Be not highminded G5309 G3361 , but G235 fear G5399 :

21. God did not keep the first branches (who are the Jews) on the tree. Then watch, or He will not keep you on the tree.
|
21. For G1063 if G1487 God G2316 spared G5339 not G3756 the G3588 natural G2596 G5449 branches G2798 , take heed lest G3381 he also spare G5339 not G3761 thee G4675 .

22. We see how kind God is. It shows how hard He is also. He is hard on those who fall away. But He is kind to you if you keep on trusting Him. If you do not, He will cut you off.
|
22. Behold G1492 therefore G3767 the goodness G5544 and G2532 severity G663 of God G2316 : on G1909 G3303 them which fell G4098 , severity G663 ; but G1161 toward G1909 thee G4571 , goodness G5544 , if G1437 thou continue in G1961 his goodness G5544 : otherwise G1893 thou G4771 also G2532 shalt be cut off G1581 .

23. If the Jews would put their trust in Christ, God would put them back into the tree. He has power to do that.

23. And G1161 they G1565 also G2532 , if they abide not G3362 G1961 still in unbelief G570 , shall be grafted in G1461 : for G1063 God G2316 is G2076 able G1415 to graft them in G1461 G846 again G3825 .

24. You people who are not Jews were cut off from a wild olive tree. Instead of being there, you were put into a garden olive tree which is not the right place for you to grow. It would be easy for God to put the Jews back onto their own olive tree because they are the branches that belong there.

24. For G1063 if G1487 thou G4771 wert cut G1581 out G1537 of the G3588 olive tree which is wild G65 by G2596 nature G5449 , and G2532 wert grafted G1461 contrary G3844 to nature G5449 into G1519 a good olive tree G2565 : how much G4214 more G3123 shall these G3778 , which G3588 be the natural G2596 G5449 branches, be grafted into G1461 their own G2398 olive tree G1636 ?

25. Christian brothers, I want you to understand this truth which is no longer a secret. It will keep you from thinking you are so wise. Some Jews have become hard until the right amount of people who are not Jews come to God.

25. 26. Then all the Jews will be saved, as the Holy Writings say, "The One Who saves from the punishment of sin will come out of Jerusalem. He will turn the Jews from doing sinful things."(Isaiah 59:20-21)

27. "And this is My promise to them when I take away their sins." (Isaiah 27:9)

28. The Jews are fighting against the Good News. Because they hate the Good News, it has helped you who are not Jews. But God still loves the Jews because He has chosen them and because of His promise to their early fathers.

28. As concerning G2596 G3303 the G3588 gospel G2098 , they are enemies G2190 for your sakes G1223 G5209 : but G1161 as touching G2596 the G3588 election G1589 , they are beloved G27 for the fathers' sakes G1223 G3588 G3962 .

29. God does not change His mind when He chooses men and gives them His gifts.
|
29. For G1063 the G3588 gifts G5486 and G2532 calling G2821 of God G2316 are without repentance G278 .
|
|
30. At one time you did not obey God. But when the Jews did not receive God's gift, you did. It was because they did not obey.
|
30. For G1063 as G5618 ye G5210 in times past G4218 have G2532 not believed G544 God G2316 , yet G1161 have now G3568 obtained mercy G1653 through their G5130 unbelief G543 :

31. The Jews will not obey now. God's loving-kindness to you will some day turn them to Him. Then the Jews may have His loving-kindness also.

32. God has said that all men have broken His Law. But He will show loving-kindness on all of them.
|

33. God's riches are so great! The things He knows and His wisdom are so deep! No one can understand His thoughts. No one can understand His ways.

33. O G5599 the depth G899 of the riches G4149 both G2532 of the wisdom G4678 and G2532 knowledge G1108 of God G2316 ! how G5613 unsearchable G419 are his G848 judgments G2917 , and G2532 his G848 ways G3598 past finding out G421 !

34. The Holy Writings say, "Who knows the mind of the Lord? Who is able to tell Him what to do?" (Isaiah 40:13-14)

34. For G1063 who G5101 hath known G1097 the mind G3563 of the Lord G2962 ? or G2228 who G5101 hath been G1096 his G848 counselor G4825 ?

35. "Who has given first to God, that God should pay him back?" (Job 35:7; 41:11)

35. Or G2228 who G5101 hath first given G4272 to him G846 , and G2532 it shall be recompensed G467 unto him G846 again?

36. Everything comes from Him. His power keeps all things together. All things are made for Him. May He be honored forever. Let it be so.
