2 Kings 20:4 (NET) New English Translation

1 In those days Hezekiah was stricken with a terminal illness. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz visited him and told him, "This is what the LORD says, 'Give your household instructions, for you are about to die; you will not get well.'"
2 He turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,
3 "Please, LORD. Remember how I have served you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion, and how I have carried out your will." Then Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 Isaiah was still in the middle courtyard when the LORD told him,
5 "Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people: 'This is what the LORD God of your ancestor David says: "I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Look, I will heal you. The day after tomorrow you will go up to the LORD's temple.
6 I will add fifteen years to your life and rescue you and this city from the king of Assyria. I will shield this city for the sake of my reputation and because of my promise to David my servant."'"
7 Isaiah ordered, "Get a fig cake." So they did as he ordered and placed it on the ulcerated sore, and he recovered.
8 Hezekiah had said to Isaiah, "What is the confirming sign that the LORD will heal me and that I will go up to the LORD's temple the day after tomorrow?"
9 Isaiah replied, "This is your sign from the LORD confirming that the LORD will do what he has said. Do you want the shadow to move ahead ten steps or to go back ten steps?"
10 Hezekiah answered, "It is easy for the shadow to lengthen ten steps, but not for it to go back ten steps."
11 Isaiah the prophet called out to the LORD, and the LORD made the shadow go back ten steps on the stairs of Ahaz.
12 At that time Merodach-Baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he had heard that Hezekiah was ill.
13 Hezekiah welcomed them and showed them his whole storehouse, with its silver, gold, spices, and high quality olive oil, as well as his armory and everything in his treasuries. Hezekiah showed them everything in his palace and in his whole kingdom.
14 Isaiah the prophet visited King Hezekiah and asked him, "What did these men say? Where do they come from?" Hezekiah replied, "They come from the distant land of Babylon."
15 Isaiah asked, "What have they seen in your palace?" Hezekiah replied, "They have seen everything in my palace. I showed them everything in my treasuries."
16 Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Listen to the word of the LORD,
17 'Look, a time is coming when everything in your palace and the things your ancestors have accumulated to this day will be carried away to Babylon; nothing will be left,' says the LORD.
18 'Some of your very own descendants whom you father will be taken away and will be made eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.'"
19 Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The LORD's word which you have announced is appropriate." Then he added, "At least there will be peace and stability during my lifetime."
20 The rest of the events of Hezekiah's reign and all his accomplishments, including how he built a pool and conduit to bring water into the city, are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Judah.
21 Hezekiah passed away and his son Manasseh replaced him as king.

And the prophet H5030 Isaiah H3470 the son H1121 CMS of Amoz H531 came H935 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP-3MS him , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Thus H3541 saith H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , Set thine house in order H6680 ; for H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS shalt die H4191 , and not H3808 W-NPAR live H2421 .
2 Then he turned H5437 his face H6440 CMP-3MS to H413 PREP the wall H7023 , and prayed H6419 W-VTY3MS unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
3 I beseech thee H577 IJEC , O LORD H3068 EDS , remember H2142 VQI2MS now H4994 IJEC how H834 RPRO I have walked H1980 before H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee in truth H571 and with a perfect H8003 heart H3824 , and have done H6213 VQQ1MS that which is good H2896 in thy sight H5869 . And Hezekiah H2396 wept H1058 sore H1065 .
4 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , before H3808 NADV Isaiah H3470 was gone out H3318 VQQ3MS into the middle H8484 court H2691 , that the word H1697 W-CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS came H1961 VQQ3MS to H413 PREP-3MS him , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
5 Turn again H7725 VQFC , and tell H559 Hezekiah H2396 the captain H5057 of my people H5971 , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , the God H430 CDP of David H1732 MMS thy father H1 NMS , I have heard H8085 VQQ1MS thy prayer H8605 , I have seen H7200 VQQ1MS thy tears H1832 : behold H2009 , I will heal H7495 thee : on the third H7992 D-ONUM day H3117 B-AMS thou shalt go up H5927 unto the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
6 And I will add H3254 unto H5921 PREP thy days H3117 CMP-2MS fifteen H2568 BFS years H8141 NFS ; and I will deliver H5337 thee and this H2063 D-DFS city H5892 D-GFS out of the hand H3709 of the king H4428 NMS of Assyria H804 GFS ; and I will defend H1598 this H2063 D-DFS city H5892 D-GFS for mine own sake H4616 , and for my servant H5650 David H1732 MMS \'s sake H4616 .
7 And Isaiah H3470 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Take H3947 a lump H1690 of figs H8384 . And they took H3947 W-VQY3MP and laid H7760 W-VQY3MP it on H5921 PREP the boil H7822 , and he recovered H2421 .
8 And Hezekiah H2396 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Isaiah H3470 , What H4100 IGAT shall be the sign H226 NMS that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS will heal H7495 me , and that I shall go up H5927 into the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS the third H7992 D-ONUM day H3117 B-AMS ?
9 And Isaiah H3470 said H559 W-VQY3MS , This H2088 DPRO sign H226 shalt thou have of the LORD H3068 EDS , that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS will do H6213 VQY3MS the thing H1697 D-NMS that H834 RPRO he hath spoken H1696 : shall the shadow H6738 go forward H1980 VQQ3MS ten H6235 MFS degrees H4609 , or H518 PART go back H7725 VQY3MS ten H6235 MFS degrees H4609 ?
10 And Hezekiah H3169 answered H559 W-VQY3MS , It is a light thing H7043 for the shadow H6738 to go down H5186 ten H6235 MFS degrees H4609 : nay H3808 NADV , but H3588 CONJ let the shadow H6738 return H7725 VQY3MS backward H322 ADV ten H6235 MFS degrees H4609 .
11 And Isaiah H3470 the prophet H5030 cried H7121 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS : and he brought H7725 W-VHY3MS the shadow H6738 ten H6235 MFS degrees H4609 backward H322 , by which H834 RPRO it had gone down H3381 in the dial H4609 of Ahaz H271 .
12 At that H1931 time H6256 Berodach H1255 - baladan , the son H1121 of Baladan H1081 , king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 LFS , sent H7971 VQQ3MS letters H5612 and a present H4503 unto H413 PREP Hezekiah H2396 : for H3588 CONJ he had heard H8085 that H3588 CONJ Hezekiah H2396 had been sick H2470 .
13 And Hezekiah H2396 hearkened H8085 unto H5921 PREP-3MP them , and showed H7200 them all H3605 NMS the house H1004 CMS of his precious things H5238 , the silver H3701 , and the gold H2091 , and the spices H1314 , and the precious H2896 D-NMS ointment H8081 NMS , and all the house H1004 CMS of his armor H3627 , and all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO was found H4672 VNQ3MS in his treasures H214 : there was H1961 VQQ3MS nothing H3808 ADV in his house H1004 B-CMS-3MS , nor in all H3605 NMS his dominion H4475 , that H834 RPRO Hezekiah H2396 showed H7200 them not H3808 ADV .
14 Then came H935 W-VQY3MS Isaiah H3470 the prophet H5030 unto H413 PREP king H4428 D-NMS Hezekiah H2396 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , What H4100 IGAT said H559 W-VQY3MS these H428 D-DPRO-3MP men H376 D-NMP ? and from whence H370 WM-ADV came H935 VQY3MP they unto H413 PREP thee ? And Hezekiah H2396 said H559 W-VQY3MS , They are come H935 VQQ3MP from a far country H776 M-NFS , even from Babylon H894 .
15 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , What H4100 IGAT have they seen H7200 VQQ3MP in thine house H1004 ? And Hezekiah H2396 answered H559 W-VQY3MS , All H3605 NMS the things that H834 RPRO are in mine house H1004 have they seen H7200 VQQ3MP : there is H1961 VQQ3MS nothing H3808 NADV among my treasures H214 that H834 RPRO I have not H3808 ADV showed H7200 them .
16 And Isaiah H3470 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Hezekiah H2396 , Hear H8085 VQI2MS the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
17 Behold H2009 IJEC , the days H3117 NMP come H935 , that all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO is in thine house H1004 , and that which H834 RPRO thy fathers H1 have laid up in store H686 unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS , shall be carried H5375 into Babylon H894 : nothing H3808 ADV shall be left H3498 , saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
18 And of thy sons H1121 that H834 RPRO shall issue H3318 from H4480 PREP-2MS thee , which H834 RPRO thou shalt beget H3205 , shall they take away H3947 ; and they shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS eunuchs H5631 in the palace H1964 of the king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 .
19 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS Hezekiah H2396 unto H413 PREP Isaiah H3470 , Good H2896 AMS is the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS which H834 RPRO thou hast spoken H1696 . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Is it not H3808 D-NPAR good , if H518 PART peace H7965 NMS and truth H571 be H1961 VQY3MS in my days H3117 ?
20 And the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 CMP of Hezekiah H2396 , and all H3605 W-CMS his might H1369 , and how H834 W-RPRO he made H6213 VQQ3MS a pool H1295 , and a conduit H8585 , and brought H935 W-VHY3MS water H4325 D-CMS into the city H5892 , are they H1992 PPRO-3MP not H3808 I-NADV written H3789 in H5921 PREP the book H5612 CMS of the chronicles H1697 CMP of the kings H4428 of Judah H3063 ?
21 And Hezekiah H2396 slept H7901 W-VQY3MS with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 : and Manasseh H4519 his son H1121 reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
