1. *Summoning the Twelve, He gave them power and authority over all the demons, and power* to heal diseases.**	1. 2. Then He sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.	2. And ^G2532 he sent ^G649 them ^G846 to preach ^G2784 the ^G3588 kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316 , and ^G2532 to heal ^G2390 the ^G3588 sick ^G770 .
3. "Take nothing for the road," He told them, "no walking stick, no traveling bag, no bread, no money; and don't take an extra shirt.	3. 5. If they do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them."	5. 9. "I beheaded John," Herod said, "but who is this I hear such things about?" And he wanted to see Him.	9. 10. When the apostles returned, they reported to Jesus all that they had done. He took them along and withdrew privately to a town called Bethsaida.	10. 11. When the crowds found out, they followed Him. He welcomed them, spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and cured those who needed healing.	11. 16. Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them. He kept giving them to the disciples to set before the crowd.	16. 18. While He was praying in private and His disciples were with Him, He asked them, "Who do the crowds say that I am?"	18. 22. saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day."	22. 23. *Then He said to them* all, "If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.**	23. 24. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will save it.	24. 25. What is a man benefited if he gains the whole world, yet loses or forfeits himself?	25. For ^G1063 what ^G5101 is a man ^G444 advantaged ^G5623 , if he gain ^G2770 the ^G3588 whole ^G3650 world ^G2889 , and ^G1161 lose ^G622 himself ^G1438 , or ^G2228 be cast away ^G2210 ?
26. For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and that of the Father and the holy angels.	26. 28. About eight days after these words, He took along Peter, John, and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.	28. 29. As He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothes became dazzling white.	29. 32. Peter and those with him were in a deep sleep, and when they became fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who were standing with Him.	32. 33. As the two men were departing from Him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it's good for us to be here! Let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"-- not knowing what he said.	33. 34. While he was saying this, a cloud appeared and overshadowed them. They became afraid as they entered the cloud.	34. While ^G1161 he ^G846 thus ^G5023 spake ^G3004 , there came ^G1096 a cloud ^G3507 , and ^G2532 overshadowed ^G1982 them ^G846 : and ^G1161 they feared ^G5399 as they ^G1565 entered ^G1525 into ^G1519 the ^G3588 cloud ^G3507 .
35. Then a voice came from the cloud, saying: This is My Son, the Chosen One; listen to Him!	35. And ^G2532 there came ^G1096 a voice ^G5456 out of ^G1537 the ^G3588 cloud ^G3507 , saying ^G3004 , This ^G3778 is ^G2076 my ^G3450 beloved ^G27 Son ^G5207 : hear ^G191 him ^G846 .
36. After the voice had spoken, only Jesus was found. They kept silent, and in those days told no one what they had seen.	36. And ^G2532 when the ^G3588 voice ^G5456 was past ^G1096 , Jesus ^G2424 was found ^G2147 alone ^G3441 . 37. The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met Him.	37. And ^G1161 it came to pass ^G1096 , that on ^G1722 the ^G3588 next ^G1836 day ^G2250 , when they ^G846 were come down ^G2718 from ^G575 the ^G3588 hill ^G3735 , much ^G4183 people ^G3793 met ^G4876 him ^G846 .
38. *Just then a man from the crowd cried out, "Teacher, I beg You to look at my son, because he's my only child.*	38. And ^G2532 , behold ^G2400 , a man ^G435 of ^G575 the ^G3588 company ^G3793 cried out ^G310 , saying ^G3004 , Master ^G1320 , I beseech ^G1189 thee ^G4675 , look ^G1914 upon ^G1909 my ^G3450 son ^G5207 : for ^G3754 he is ^G2076 mine ^G3427 only child ^G3439 .
39. Often a spirit seizes him; suddenly he shrieks, and it throws him into convulsions until he foams at the mouth; wounding him, it hardly ever leaves him.	39. And ^G2532 , lo ^G2400 , a spirit ^G4151 taketh ^G2983 him ^G846 , and ^G2532 he suddenly ^G1810 crieth out ^G2896 ; and ^G2532 it teareth ^G4682 him ^G846 that he foameth again ^G3326 ^G876 , and ^G2532 bruising ^G4937 him ^G846 hardly ^G3425 departeth ^G672 from ^G575 him ^G846 .
40. I begged Your disciples to drive it out, but they couldn't."	40. And ^G2532 I besought ^G1189 thy ^G4675 disciples ^G3101 to ^G2443 cast him out ^G1544 ^G846 ; and ^G2532 they could ^G1410 not ^G3756 .
41. Jesus replied, "You unbelieving and rebellious generation! How long will I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here."	41. And ^G1161 Jesus ^G2424 answering ^G611 said ^G2036 , O ^G5599 faithless ^G571 and ^G2532 perverse ^G1294 generation ^G1074 , how long ^G2193 ^G4219 shall I be ^G2071 with ^G4314 you ^G5209 , and ^G2532 suffer ^G430 you ^G5216 ? 42. As the boy was still approaching, the demon knocked him down and threw him into severe convulsions. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, cured the boy, and gave him back to his father.	42. 43. And they were all astonished at the greatness of God. While everyone was amazed at all the things He was doing, He told His disciples,	43. But ^G1161 while they wondered ^G2296 every one ^G3956 at ^G1909 all things ^G3956 which ^G3739 Jesus ^G2424 did ^G4160 , he said ^G2036 unto ^G4314 his ^G848 disciples ^G3101 ,
44. "Let these words sink in: the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men."	44. Let ^G5210 these ^G5128 sayings ^G3056 sink down ^G5087 into ^G1519 your ^G5216 ears ^G3775 : for ^G1063 the ^G3588 Son ^G5207 of man ^G444 shall ^G3195 be delivered ^G3860 into ^G1519 the hands ^G5495 of men ^G444 .
45. But they did not understand this statement; it was concealed from them so that they could not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask Him about it.	45. But ^G1161 they ^G3588 understood not ^G50 this ^G5124 saying ^G4487 , and ^G2532 it was ^G2258 hid ^G3871 from ^G575 them ^G846 , that ^G2443 they perceived ^G143 it ^G846 not ^G3361 : and ^G2532 they feared ^G5399 to ask ^G2065 him ^G846 of ^G4012 that ^G5127 saying ^G4487 .
46. Then an argument started among them about who would be the greatest of them.	46. Then ^G1161 there arose ^G1525 a reasoning ^G1261 among ^G1722 them ^G846 , which ^G5101 of them ^G846 should be ^G1498 greatest ^G3187 .
47. But Jesus, knowing the thoughts of their hearts, took a little child and had him stand next to Him.	47. And ^G1161 Jesus ^G2424 , perceiving ^G1492 the ^G3588 thought ^G1261 of their ^G846 heart ^G2588 , took ^G1949 a child ^G3813 , and set ^G2476 him ^G846 by ^G3844 him ^G1438 ,
48. He told them, "Whoever welcomes this little child in My name welcomes Me. And whoever welcomes Me welcomes Him who sent Me. For whoever is least among you-- this one is great."	48. 49. John responded, "Master, we saw someone driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him because he does not follow us."	49. And ^G1161 John ^G2491 answered ^G611 and said ^G2036 , Master ^G1988 , we saw ^G1492 one ^G5100 casting out ^G1544 devils ^G1140 in ^G1909 thy ^G4675 name ^G3686 ; and ^G2532 we forbade ^G2967 him ^G846 , because ^G3754 he followeth ^G190 not ^G3756 with ^G3326 us ^G2257 .
50. "Don't stop him," Jesus told him, "because whoever is not against you is for you."	50. And ^G2532 Jesus ^G2424 said ^G2036 unto ^G4314 him ^G846 , *Forbid ^G2967 him* not ^G3361 : for ^G1063 he ^G3739 that is ^G2076 not ^G3756 against ^G2596 us ^G2257 is ^G2076 for ^G5228 us ^G2257 .**
51. When the days were coming to a close for Him to be taken up, He determined to journey to Jerusalem.	51. And ^G1161 it came to pass ^G1096 , when the ^G3588 time ^G2250 was come ^G4845 that ^G2532 he ^G846 should be received up ^G354 , he ^G846 steadfastly set ^G4741 his ^G848 face ^G4383 to go ^G4198 to ^G1519 Jerusalem ^G2419 ,
52. He sent messengers ahead of Him, and on the way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make preparations for Him.	52. And ^G2532 sent ^G649 messengers ^G32 before ^G4253 his ^G848 face ^G4383 : and ^G2532 they went ^G4198 , and entered ^G1525 into ^G1519 a village ^G2968 of the Samaritans ^G4541 , to ^G5620 make ready ^G2090 for him ^G846 .
